Protection principle of protective mask

2021 06/17

With the rapid development of science and technology, people pay more and more attention to environmental problems. Many people wear protective masks when they travel to avoid absorbing the dust in the air into the human respiratory tract, resulting in breathing difficulties. But do you know the protective principle of protective masks?

Protective materials are mainly natural fibers, mineral fibers or synthetic fibers used to filter particles in the air. There are five kinds of filter material fibers that can filter particles in the air. They can work together, including sedimentation, inertial impact, interception, diffusion and static electricity, Under the action of air flow, when it rises and falls into the filter material of the mask under the influence of gravity, it can be separated from the air flow. When the particles bypass the fiber blocking in front of the air flow, some higher particles will be affected by inertia due to too much weight, deviate from the direction of the previous air flow and collide with the filter element to be filtered.

The role of interception is to rely on the airflow in the pipeline close to the filter material, so that its radius is greater than the distance between the streamline and the filter material to be intercepted. Diffusion is mainly due to the thermal movement of molecules in the air. Some tiny particles, impacted by molecules in the air, constantly change the direction of their movement, showing Brownian motion. They randomly touch the filter material of the protective mask, and then they are filtered down. If the protective mask contains weak static electricity, no matter whether the particles in the air have electrons or not, when they are close to the protective mask, they will be attracted by static electricity and filtered down. Static electricity can help to protect the mask and improve the filtration efficiency without increasing resistance.

When we get a protective mask, we first gently pinch the nose clip in the protective mask and put the mask on our face to ensure that the protective mask can cover our nose and mouth. Next, tie the upper elastic band into the head to prevent air from entering our mouth and nose. Then tie the summer elastic band around our neck. When using the protective mask, open the mask completely to avoid breathing difficulties due to too thick mask when reducing breathing. And the ear hanging mask directly through the ear band with both hands, put the nose clip on our nose, and put the mask on our nose and mouth
